InLoDE-ProDeBa
Djougou, Benin
Community organisation, that contributes to the reduction of poverty in all its forms.
Local Initiatives for Endogenous Development and the Promotion of Grassroots Democracy (InLoDE-ProDéBa), was founded in 2004 and is based in Djougou, Benin. The NGO focuses on improving living conditions in Atacora-Donga, empowering youth and combating the widespread idleness affecting the community, striving for greater professional integration and development. Specializing in Water and Sanitation and Health (WASH), climate change, gender promotion, and youth employability, InLoDE-ProDéBa works to combat both monetary and non-monetary poverty. The NGO is also working with CARE International on youth integration into future professions and entrepreneurship. In partnership with Hands Around the Word (HATW), InLoDE-ProDéBa is promoting environmental preservation through educational initiatives.
We have a growing problem worldwide when it comes to waste, for example, the amount of waste sent to landfill and the resulting pollution and environmental harm. There are governmental initiatives in Benin to improve waste management and recycling, but these are still under development. For example, schools can subscribe to a household waste collection service, but there is no facility for recycling and the school environment is not always as clean as it could be. The challenge is to inspire children to become future environmental leaders better equipped to tackle these challenges.
The Environment Fund supports Project Partners working to mitigate the impact of climate change and help communities adapt and build resilience to its inevitable consequences. The Zambia Women and Girls Foundation is one such partner. To contribute to the Environment Fund, please use the following link. This project introduces the concept of environmental management to young schoolchildren to equip future young leaders with the necessary tools to take care for their immediate environment. They will receive training to create decorative items, like jewellery, from recycled materials, as well as other products from recycling such as compost. The ‘I inspire NTC’ project will directly impact three educational institutions: a kindergarten, an elementary school, and a secondary school. A club named ‘NTC (New Type of Citizen) for the Environment’ will be established at each site.
