Leave a Gift in Your Will
By leaving a gift in your Will to Hands Around the World, you can continue to transform the lives of vulnerable children for generations to come.
You’ve helped Hands Around the World improve the lives of thousands of children in Africa and India in your lifetime. Thank you. Can you continue that help by leaving a bequest in your Will? No-one likes to think about the inevitable but by making a Will now you can ensure that your family, friends and charities benefit in the way you choose, far better than leaving the state to distribute according to intestacy law. Please consult a solicitor if your estate exceeds the inheritance tax level or is complicated. You can find a local solicitor who specialises in Wills & Probate at www.lawsociety.org.uk/find-a-solicitor/

What are the benefits to me?
Charitable bequests are deducted from the estate for tax purposes, reducing your tax bill (if your estate exceeds inheritance tax). The comfort of knowing that work you have helped to start can continue and that you leave a lasting legacy.
I don’t have much, what is the point?
All bequests are welcome, as large or small as you wish. Whether the funds pay the wages of a children’s carer, support a child in school, pay a teacher’s salary, drill a bore hole for a community or build a new classroom block – you can be certain that your gift will be directly helping vulnerable children.
I already have a Will, must I change it?
You can add a codicil, your solicitor will advise. In practice, with modern technology it is easy to re-write a Will and many solicitors will prefer this to adding a codicil.
What assets can I bequeath?
Commonly bequests are cash but may be other assets for example an antique or picture. Cash bequests may be a fixed sum of money, eg £1000, but bear in mind that it may be a long time before your Will is executed and the value of your gift may be eroded by inflation. Alternatively you could consider leaving a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate after all other bequests have been met or the value of your estate which exceeds the inheritance tax level. If you prefer to leave a tangible asset such as an antique or other property it would be helpful if you called us so we can be sure we can make the most of your gift.
What will Hands Around the World do with my bequest?
Most bequests are for general funding. This is incredibly valuable to Hands Around the World because it means we can direct your donation to the current needs. If you would prefer to donate to a specific project please talk to us first so that we can be sure that the project will be ongoing. Hands Around the World will be happy to acknowledge your bequest appropriately, for example by naming a building or project in your memory.
Should I tell Hands Around the World that I’ve made a bequest?
It’s nice if you do but not essential, we’ll appreciate the surprise.
