After family and a working life in London I escaped to Uganda as a volunteer with VSO. I loved it! Retired now to Herefordshire I was mulling over what to do locally and there, in the Monmouth Beacon, was a letter from David Steiner appealing for volunteers for the HATW office. Such perfect timing! I phoned and here I am a dozen years later still loving my links with Africa. I’ve watched many volunteers go out to visit our projects and admired the work they did and the impact a visit had on them as well as our partners. Behind the scenes there is much to do to ensure their safety and wellbeing and I’m proud to have been a part of it. I’ve watched HATW grow and adapt with the passing years, building systems and policies to meet the growing demands on charities and bringing in volunteers from a wide range of disciplines to support our cause. I’ve found it deeply satisfying to be involved in HATW and use what skills I have to support the development of our projects. Best of all, I love to be able to talk about Africa with others who love it, thank you David for taking me on!
