
Opportunity for funding for environmental initiatives
Purpose of funding
Aim: to support projects which help mitigate the impact of climate change and those which help people adapt and build resilience to the inevitable consequences of environmental change.
Theme: The theme for 2025 will be water.
This could include anything water related. A few examples could be:
Water conservation, reducing water pollution, movement of water / controlling water flow, water harvesting, use of plants and trees, access to clean water eg. repairs to existing boreholes

Criteria:
- Contribute to the aim of the environment fund
- Demonstrate capacity for the project to be self-sustaining beyond the grant period
- Address environmental issues associated with water use
- Project must be located in Benin, India, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda or Zambia
- Proposal must be submitted by HATW member / partner or be recommended by HATW contact
- Children/young people must be actively involved in the project
- Demonstrate relevant previous experience or appropriate expertise
- Demonstrate how this project relates to your organisational aims / strategy
Total funds available = £7,000. There are two grants available each for a maximum of £3,500. Please note that you can apply for less – but not more – than £3,500.
Timeline
30th June 2025 is the deadline for applications and applicants will be informed of the result of their application on 30th September 2025.
Between 30th June and 30th September, we may contact you with questions and/or to arrange a Zoom call to discuss your proposal.
If successful, you should plan for your project to start towards the end of 2025 or in the first half of 2026 and expect to submit a final report within 14 months of the start date.
How to apply
Your application should be a maximum of two sides of A4 and must include the following:
- Name of applicant and contact details
- Name of organisation
- Location of proposed project
- Web address and details of social media (if applicable)
- Details of 2 references (new partners only)
- Name of HATW contact
- Description of planned project, budget and timeline of activities
Please ensure you include the following:
- indicate the number of direct and indirect beneficiaries
- explain how your project will be self-sustaining beyond the grant period
- describe your criteria for success and how you will evaluate this
We also ask that you submit your most recent annual report and accounts.

If successful, we may want to send a volunteer/staff member to do a site visit at some point during the project and would ask for your support to facilitate this.
*If successful, new partners will be subject to due diligence checks. Funds will not be released until references are returned and due diligence checks are completed.
