Paluoc Carpentry Training Workshop is on the outskirts of the city of Kisumu on Lake Victoria, Kenya
About 10 disadvantaged young people aged 17-25 are taught woodworking skills, to a government recognised qualification to enable them to earn a living. Some tools are given to help them start their own business. Training includes a placement in a local workshop. More experienced students make items for sale and provide a repair service.
What is HATW involvement?
HATW became involved in 2010, helping to construct the workshop, and has provided hand and electric carpentry tools as well as health & safety equipment. Volunteers visit at least once a year to help with maintenance, support initiatives to improve finances and encourage.
