Meru North DCC is based in the town of Maua, in the hills north of Nairobi in Kenya.
Local children aged about 3-15 with disabilities attend for assessment, therapy and placement in specialist units in schools nearby, such as Athi and Irindiro.
What is HATW involvement?
Our involvement started in 2003 with the short-term placement of speech therapists and physiotherapists, also special needs teachers. In addition, UK volunteers have helped construct a wheelchair-friendly dining room, a therapy room and a dormitory for severely disabled residential students. We have raised funds for further classrooms and some refurbishment. Regular visits help ongoing skill-sharing and support with specialist equipment.
