Muko and Mihabura are two busy schools in the small town of Bugarama in southern Rwanda.
The number of primary children aged 6-14 who can now go to school has increased from 500 to 1500 as a result of the building of new classrooms.
What is HATW involvement?
HATW has raised funds to build more than 15 new classrooms and now visit annually to help build, decorate and undertake maintenance work along with local builders. Work is now also scheduled elsewhere in the local community. Since Rwanda switched their main language from French to English we have also sent volunteers to assist teachers in English language skills.
HATW Jersey are the main source of volunteers but mainlanders can join them.
Decorators, maintenance people, English teachers (especially as a foreign language), carers and encouragers.
